I cook to make others smile. I cook because it makes me happy and sometimes it helps me unwind. Most importantly, I cook because I LOVE to eat. It sort of runs in the family. I don’t consider myself a great cook and I am not a brilliant writer but, I do regard myself as a happy/learning cook and an honest writer.
I considered Gordon Ramsay my cooking Guru. Whenever I wanted to try out something new, the first thing I’d ask myself was “Does Gordon have a recipe for it??” He just makes everything look so easy. But times have changed, and I look up to many others now. Sally from Sally’s Baking Blog for her amazing cakes, Cupcake Jemma for cupcakes (of course), Laura Vitale for her simple Italian dishes, Gretchen from Woodland Bakery for her cakes too and not forgetting Lindsay Ostrom and team from Pinch of Yum for just perfecting the art of showcasing food. These are just a few of the many wonderful people I look upto.
Every time I cooked/baked something new, I had my best and most honest critics (my family) tasting it, loving it (most of the times) and encouraging me to expand my cooking horizon. I shared every picture of my cooking success with my friends (who are scattered all over the world) on a WhatsApp group. They encouraged me to start this blog to share my experiences with everyone. So I intend on making this blog a platform to showcase my cooking success, discuss my epic fails, journalize the interesting dishes I try during my travel- In short share my love for food.
Why the name Planes to Plates (P2P)?? Well, I am an Aviation girl with a passion for cooking. I have learned to fly and have worked as an Aircraft Technician, an Aircraft Maintenance Planner and now work in Aircraft Maintenance Sales in Dubai, UAE. My second passion, traveling. I wanted my blog’s name to sum me up and well there couldn’t have been a more perfect title.
The food blogging world is HUGE! I am a tiny minion in a world of some of the most talented people I have ever seen. What then is special about this Blog? It’s not just MY BLOG, it is a family affair (my husband, 2 sisters, my brother). So, along with my husband/Blog Photographer/IT Guy Meeth Nihan, my brother/most honest critic Colin D’Costa, my sister/ sous-chef Crystal D’Costa and my sister/”Marketing Manager” Diantha D’Costa, I hope that you all support me (us actually) on this culinary/travel adventure as we fasten our seatbelts and… Jet-Set-BURP!
PS. Not all recipes are my own. Some are my favourite recipes from famous bloggers which sometimes I play around and tweak to suit my taste. I always credit the person who inspired me to cook that particular dish. No matter what though, it’s all hard work, right from cooking to presentation to photography, editing to writing, which is why I ask that if you do try something and enjoy it, please credit me and link it back to my site.
